Frico by Scarpetta

 Frico by Scarpetta

This wine is called Frico by Scarpetta, and is made with 100% Friulano grapes. The place of origin is  Friuli Venezia Giulia- the northeast corner of Italy with a vintage year of 2020. Regrettably, I forgot to ask for a receipt but I bought it from the under $10 section at Vintage Cellar and goes online anywhere from $7-14.

While I couldn't find any wine critic or winery reviews of this wine, it received a 3.8/5 on vivino.com. There, community reviews say that the wine is a "nice dry but crisp white wine" and that it "has a hint of sweet fruit like green apple or pears at the finish". Another reviewer said "Good body, fruity and dry. Not too sweet".

On page 111 of Wine Folly, Friulano is described as a "lean, dry white wine" which "is often mistaken for Sauvignon Blanc, but with bolder fruit and subtle herbal flavors". According to the book is has flavors of grapefruit, green pear and white peach and notes of tarragon and crushed gravel. It should be served in a white wine glass at 45-55*F and can remain in the cellar for 1-5 years.

I did not have this wine with any food. This wine smells very much of the small green grapes of my childhood, along with a bit of citrus fruit. It also possibly has a bit of an herby aroma. This wine tastes immediately like grapes, but less so than the aroma would make you think. It is very slightly dry and leaves a bit of a sweetness at the tip of the tongue. It leaves the mouth watering a bit, but feels very refreshing. It has a bit of a raspberry undertone to me, and eventually fades into an slight green apple flavor. It was enjoyable but I prefer more pronounced fruity tones and slightly more sweetness.

In conclusion, I give this wine a 7/10.
