High Roller Pinot Noir by JAQK Cellars
This wine is called High Roller Pinot Noir, and is made with 100% Pinot Noir grapes. The place of origin is the Central Coast of California, USA with a vintage year of 2018. The cost usually $18 but because it was featured at a tasting at Vintage Cellar, it was on sale for $9.95.
Vintage
Cellar had this to say about the wine: "This Pinot Noir has classic
aromatics of black cherry, strawberry coulis, violets and baking spice.
On the palate, complex layers of sweet red fruit and plum jam mingle
with spicy oak notes, forest floor and a brisk finish. High Roller Pinot
Noir is a flavorful and elegant wine."
On
page 150 of Wine Folly, it is mentioned that Pinot Noir is the "world's
most popular light-bodied red" and is "loved for its red fruit and
spice flavors that are accentuated by a long, smooth, soft-tannin
finish". It also mentions a "higher acidity" and "lower tannins" make it
a good pair for "duck, chicken, pork, and mushrooms". It should be
served in an "aroma collector" glass, stored in a cellar at 55-60*F,
decanted for 30 mins, and can be stored in the cellar for 5-15 years.
I
did not have this wine with any food, as I tried it at a tasting at
Vintage Cellar. This wine smells like strawberries and slightly like
cherries, and I did not get any aroma of the violets or baking spice as
mentioned in Vintage Cellar's review. It was extremely dry for my taste
and was slightly bitter (which I assume can be contributed to the oaky
tannins). It surprisingly tasted unlike strawberries or cherry to me,
and mostly like dark grapes and left a sort of camphor taste in the
mouth.
